Angry Front lower control arm

While exiting a freeway ramp, the right lower control arm on my 2006 HHR snapped off, causing me to veer to the right, go up a curb, come down and halt. I contacted GM and they said they see no problems. I also had the clunk when turning. Any one else had this problem? The tires on the right side are still inflated....

When you say the LCA snapped off, do you mean broke or seperated from the mount or spindle?

Glad your ok. Bet that was a fun ride......

What do you mean they saw no problem? Hello GM...the car is broke and ran over a curb. That to me constitutes a problem.

BTW... to the forum...fine way to have to make your entrance...but glad to have you aboard.

Did you buy your HHR on Ebay? There was one for sale a few months ago that had done some curb jumping and had a mangled suspension but had been repaired with lots of welding. I would like to see what "snapped" off.

The LCA's are aluminum castings. It is possible that one could fracture if it was a bad casting. First we've heard of it though.

Best of luck in getting it fixed, let us know the outcome...

Sorry to hear about the LCA. I have not heard any clunking noise so far. Please keep us up to date on the status. It will be interesting to hear how they handle this issue.

I've heard of clunking before.. on front wheel drive vehicles..

When turning your wheels, usually the front CV joint/bearing would be drying out.. lack of grease.....
Don't know if its related.. but check anyways.. never know..

I've seen several snapped spindles in body shops (Happened durring the wrecks). Aluminum spindles seem to break easier. Haven't seen the lca break yet.
