My daughter said that she smelled gas when she gets out of the car. I checked it this morning with a quick crawl under the car. The fuel lines are all in perfect condition (no rust), except there is dripping from the wrapped part near the rear axle. I am assuming the line is rusted out inside the heat wrap.

I want to replace the section that is wrapped. I am at work now and will be going out at lunch to buy a piece of fuel line and a couple of flare couplers.

If I recall correctly, the fuel line size is 3/8", is that correct?

3/8 is correct, there are just vapour line kits available.

I am hoping to just splice in a short piece to replace the corroded part.

I don't recall exactly how it looks past the wrapped part, hopefully it doesn't convert to flex hose at a rusty part.

Our local auto parts store does sell both 3/8" metal line and also 3/8"metal line with an 8" flex hose piece attached.

The pipe ^, is the end the connects to the bundy at the fuel pressure flexible hose to the fuel pump. You should have 6 to 10 inches of tube to cut and splice.

I’ve worked with both the stainless steel and vinyl plastic lines, I prefer working with the flexible lines , very easy to work with an only in cut to make when installing the vapour line.

It’s not just northern rust, salt air and moisture gets under the insulation sleeve and starts the corrosion process.

I removed the insulation wrap. There was one spot (at the lowest part of the wrap) where it is leaking from.

However, there are a few other rusty spots along the way to the tank that was under the wrap.

I might as well replace the whole section from the long plastic bracket under the floorpan to the connectors at the fuel pump/ evap canister.

A few years ago I bought a kit from Rock auto for my other HHR made by fineline that was the whole fuel line setup, front to back. I was going to order it from Rock Auto and only use the rear part of the new lines but Rock Auto doesn't show any fuel line kits anymore (2011 HHR 1LT 2.2L).

Any suggestions on where to buy a kit from?

Looks like ebay has the nylon kits that go from mid-section of the car to the fuel tank/evap canister (Inline Tube is the manufacturer) for about $80 with free shipping.

I am thinking of ordering the kit and putting the HHR aside until it comes some time next week.

Didn't you use a nylon fuel line kit on your HHR, Oldblue?
