Why is it that there never seems to be a forum that matches my questions?

Anyway, my father retired from GM and there is a discount program for him and his dependents. The problem is that the number for the GM Benefits and Service Center (1-800-489-4646) is an automated line and in order to get ANY information on that line you have to create an account by giving them your Social Security number, DOB, etc. WTF?

What's deal with these people? I just want some information and I have to give them all this sensitive information just to talk to a human being?

Does anyone here familiar with this process?

 

They are probably wanting that info to confirm you are eligable, though it seems they could ask while talking to you, not before.

You cannot do anything and are only eligible through him. He must get the forms not you.

 

GDZHHR, is correct. That info will need to be supplied, by your dad, for GM to provide a GMS reference number.

And as the other post states, he can access, or request, info from the GMfamilyFirst.com website.....which is much easier than rotating through the phone menu system. And besides, you can price out a vehicle at GMS discount and search dealers' inventory for existing vehicles that meet your option list requirements.

 

Unfortunately it looks like I'm out of luck. My dad passed away 15 years ago but my mom was still eligible but she passed away last week.

Most of my adult life I've heard of this discount but could never afford ANY new car. My mom passes away leaving me a meager inheritance with which I planned to buy my long coveted HHR SS only to have it come to this.

This sure has taken a lot of wind out of my sails.

Guess I'll just get a new set of floor mats and a detail for my Jeep Cherokee and it'll be good for another hundred thousand miles.

Do you have the 4.0 in your Cherokee? That engine has to be in the top 10 engines ever produced. My Cherokee has over 194,000 miles on it and still runs like new!

 

Yea, mine's got 140,000+ on it and the only thing I've had to replace was a "crankshaft position sensor" and a couple batteries. If I had to drive to Alaska tomorrow I'd change the oil, fill it up with gas and hit the road.

The best, most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.

 

Aren't the cars going for close to employee prices anyway? At least they couldn't much more with the rebates and dealer discount you can wrangle.

 

Funny you say that because I have said the same thing about mine. I am going to have to think long and hard if I ever decide I want to sell it.
