Unhappy Growl or a roar.....

My HHR just started making a noise only while driving--not idling...
It is a roar or a growl loud inside the car--and increases/decreases as my speed does. It isn't a grinding noise or a squeel. I change my oil regularly and just purchased new tires (after the noise started).
Any suggestions? It is a 2006, automatic with 52000 miles

Does it happen if you are sitting idling? If not, I would guess wheel bearings on one or more wheel are worn out.

There was also an issue with the A/C making a growling sound. Is the increase with rolling speed or engine speed?

if it's a wheel bearing you may be able to make the noise change by turning small amounts to the left and then to the right. this loads the bearing a bit and changes the growl noise (if it's a bearing noise)
