What's interesting is, they mention gravel roads. I live 1/2 mile off of a gravel road. None of the other 5 vehicles I own or have owned, have had brake problems relating to driving on a gravel road. Appears to be a design shortcoming with the brake shields, as these are re-designed ones the installed. Wonder how many HHR owners drive on non-paved roads?

I just had my rotors and pads replaced this past week. I had the rotors turned at 9K and they went again at 20K, enough is enough.

Smile New Rotor's & Pad's

I just installed a pair of drilled & sloted rotors from R1concepst on Ebay. The zink coating took a few stops to wear off but after that I noticed no vibration in the break pedal like before. I also noticed better breaking I now have almost three hundred mile's on them and I actually look forward to breaking.
I'm going to ask the dealer to install the air shields even though I have 38560 miles on the HHR. I have had the OEM rotor's turned under warranty 3X and were in need of either being turned or replaced.
Can one of you tell me were in the owners manual / warranty manual to find were GM says not to turn the rotor's ??
Many thanks

We have an 06 LT2 with an auto trans. and 33000 miles. We cannot go 7000 miles without having to take it in for the brakes (will be taking it in next week for the 7th time) and 5 of the 6 times so far they have turned the rotors. I can hardly wait to see what they do next week on the 7th trip in. This is the first car we have owned (we have had over 60 cars & trucks over the past 45 years) that we should not drive down a dirt or gravel road with. Do you think GM will buy my house and move me to a paved street because we like our HHR???

Rotor Nightmare!!!!!

I posted quite awhile ago about rotor problems, so here is a little recap and update. Bought my HHR new 2 years ago this coming June. I also bought a 3 year service plan with my dealer so it is in the shop every 3,000 miles for 3 years. EVERY 3,000 miles the rotors have had to be resurfaced or replaced (times 2). One episode resulted in the failure to tighten bolts and a caliper going through my pretty high polished wheel bringing me to an abrupt STOP. Thank God I was only going 25 miles an hour. All have been taken care of by warranty and the "episode" got me a new wheel on the dealer. Now I am 56 years old and our cars are garaged, and extremely well cared for. This car is a "grocery getter" and driven maybe once a week in the winter (we use the hubbies Silverado SS in the winter and one of his 2 Corvettes in the summer).
It now has 19,000 miles on it. So, in November I raised a little fuss and mentioned the lemon law and they got ahold of the GM guy and GM had them put on the best aftermarket rotors on the market. Two weeks ago (at 3,000 miles since the last vist and the new rotors) the steering wheel started shaking again. Hubby called GM and we are in the process of following through on their lemon law complaint (or whatever you want to call it). Took it into the shop and sure enough, the rotor had to be resurfaced. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE MY HHR, but the brakes are nothing to play with and I can't see myself having to have them fixed every 3,000 miles once it out of warranty. I am seriously considering trading it, but will take a huge loss. Will have to see what GM comes up with, and will keep you posted. I just don't know what other car I would want if I did trade, I want an HHR!!!

Thanks for listening and I will notify the GM guy that this forum exists and that I know I am not the only one.

Take care all and for those whose "shaking" stops when not applying the brakes-get it into the dealer if it is in warranty so you have verification of the problem.

took my fall edition in this morning, my replacement wheels came in (look at the fall edition thread)

but i told them to check my brakes due to the squeeky noise i been hearing. 10,600 miles on it.

told them about tsb.... my service advisor had that blank look...lol so .... gave them the number.etc...
they check them and mine falls under that....so they are going to replace..

welp they didnt have the parts but ordered them.... they are going to replace them... and install the shields .... parts should be in a few days.. but i am going to wait on my wheel 6th wheel replacement is in.

oh they asked if was alright to wash my car ( it was spotless when it went in and still was spotless) told them naw.....next time....
