HHRs are a piece of cake compared to changing headlights on a Datsun 240Z or 280Z, three of which I owned for a cumulative total of about 17 years. Not only did you have to unsrew and unfasten the fender liner, you then had to reach in and almost blindly remove four screws, pull out the headlignt housing and then seperate the headlight from it.

Upgraded bulbs on my wifes HHR and my F150 4x4 last night..i figured id start with the HHR it sounded to be the more difficult of the 2 ..started about 930pm and was incredibly intimidated by what ive read..after the first one the 2nd one was a piece of cake..Im glad i did my research on here because there was a post with a guy having trouble getting the headlight bulb back into place and he figured out the old gasket was stuck there and thats exactly what happened to me,So thanks for that HHR forum..its ironic how easy this was, took me about 30 minutes..and My f150 which was supposed to be the easy swap took me like 2,5 hours..You have to remove the WHOLE headlight assembly to replace the bulb and Its damn near impossible to align everything just right..at night.... with a flash light... and get it back in hahaha..

The biggest aggravation of this to me is just getting the stupid plastic clips in and out. I finally bought a pin removal tool from Harbor Freight and it makes it a whole lot easier. I do wish however that they just used something you could unscrew and be done with it.

As others have mentioned, the bulb is actually relatively easy to replace compared to many cars now. I liked the old days where you just took out a few screws on the headlight frame and took the entire headlight out and popped another one in.

I still wish they had spent the few cents to provide a removable access panel. How much could that have added to manufacturing costs?

2,000,000 X $2. Economy of scale works both ways. Same reason they deleted the "GM Chicklet", those cost about $0.03 each X 10,000,000,000.
