Headlights go on when put in gear?

On a 2006 HHR shouldnt the front side amber bulbs only be on while driving during the day? Now the headlights go on now and never used to, does anyone else have this happening to them. I know that the 07 use the headlights for the DRL but not the 06. Can this be adj thru the indash computer menu? All we want is to get this back to the way it was. Thanks for your help

Have you recently had any work done at the dealer?

Do the headlights stay on all the time or do they go off when you're in sunlight for a short time? I know that when my Wife first starts the car the headlights come on. They stay on until she's out from under the carport, then shortly after she's out in the sun, they shut off. I hardly ever drive the HHR, but I think there is some gizmo that automatically turns the headlights on and off as needed. Or you can set it so that you operate them manually. I'm not 100% sure of all this, but I recall the salesman saying something about this back in August '05!

Al, you can operate the headlights manually, and there is a light sensor that will turn on the headlights in certain levels of darkness if you're in "Auto" mode.

I wonder if larryv might have something covering the sensor on the dashboard???

Or maybe when he had it serviced they reset it with 07 specs. I beleave this recently happened to another member. As long as he's had the car I'm guessing he know about the auto lights by now.

Thanks guys, nothing covering the sensor and GDZHHR, she did have it in for the A/C fan noise. maybe they reset the computer i quess she has to take it back to the dealer for now if she remembers she just turns the light lever back. She is just concerned about having the lights on all the time here in the summer its has been extremely hot here 107-108 and noticed that when she had forgotten to turn the lights off she happened to walk by the front of the HHR and she could not even touch the front lenses I can't even imagine how HOT the harness and the light plug must be. Thanks

I would think the lights and associated wiring would be able to survive the heat without any problem. I have driven with my lights on 24x7 for 32 years, even while I lived in Phoenix for 3 years.

Was using the headlights as DRLs a change to all 2007 Chevys? I really like just the orange parking lights on and feel they're more visible than the headlights. In '07s, do the dash lights dim like they normally do when the headlights come on? In my older vehicles, I often turned on the headlights for greater visibility but hated how it dimmed the dash lights. It's hard to read the time with sunglasses on.

I'm kind of glad I have an '06!
