On my Equinox, if I turned the lights on, it dinged when I got out of the car. In PA, state law requires lights (NOT day running lights) to be turned on in fog, whenever wipers are used, and in construction areas.

Yes, I have a manual, but don't see anything about this issue, that's why I asked the question.
Not to be argumentative, and being apologetic. When your wipers are on the "headlights" turn on, after 20 seconds. Are you positive that DRLs don't qualify in construction zones, I don't know about PA? Usually if there is fog, there is enough obstruction of light to trigger the "headlights", or alternatively , just put something over the sensor on the dashboard, like an envelope (solves all probs, except people flashing lights at you). When I mentioned "Read The F'ing Manual", I meant the "professional" tow truck guy!:danci ngappleI just love dancing fruit & vegetables!)

and is this the whole reason my car wouldn't start???
Do you still have the problem with the chime not working? Have you tested it since the battery cahrged? If it works now you may not have have noticed the chime, if it doesn't work you need to check further. Other more important warnings may not be working also.

What can I say, I'm a silly guy.

You do know that the chime is a function of the radio, and that the radio uses only the left front speaker for the chime function...right?

Yes and no. I knew it uses the radio, but not that it uses only that speaker. Although I would notice if one of my seakers went out. Unless he only use the radio as a warning device, it seems an unlikely cause for his problem.

You might, but most people don't. Most only notice the lack of chime. Strange but true.

In that case, it is a possibility.

I still think he should check if the chime even works. Easy to do, open the door with the key in.

Am I the only one here that knows that you can turn off the auto headlights? It is really easy with no technical expertise. At least on my '09. Just rotate the light switch back instead of forward to turn them on. When you rotate the switch to turn the lights off, you get a message on the DIC saying AUTO LIGHTS OFF and the chime comes on for a couple of dings. Also, if you hold the info button and the scroll button at the same time for the DIC display you can reprogram what you want to happen when you lock and unlock the car. My headlights used to come on automatically when I unlocked the car, now they don't. Plus I programmed it to beep when I locked the car, this won't happen if the lights are left on. This is also how you reset the oil change on the car. It is all in the owners manual. At least for the '09 it is.
