Heater fan control problem!

Just started happening this morning, basically, the fans dont turn on unless i put the setting at maximum speed. (All the way to the right) Theres no middle setting anymore, and no change in air or heat coming out the vents, only if its at the max setting. Anyone else have this happen? Or know of a fix? loose fuse? anything? Let me know if u can, I would appreciate it, thanks :)

Sounds like the switch, itself, is the problem. I also believe some others have posted the same problem.

This sounds like a blown resistor, probably caused by a defective wire connector, although this is common on trucks, I have not seen this happen on a HHR, but we are talking about a automobile so anything is possible. If not the resistor then a switch might be the cause. Testing the circuit is the only way to be sure.

I had a fried resistor on my HHR last year. I only had the 2 highest speeds and it would come on by itself and not turn off. It did it for a week or so after it was fixed then stopped and has not done it since.

My only problem with the heater is it seems to blow in the middle of the car rather than on the floor. Yes, I have it on the floor-only setting. I have to crack a window because I can't stand all that heat in my face. In the meantime, my toes are still cold.

wife and i have this discussion at home all the time . I call it a truck. she says its not a truck or a VAN (just got rid of a minivan) so it's her "car"

Blown fan motor resistor is common on Impala's and wasn't sure if Chevy continued to use
it after 2004 or 05. Most people complain of lost of lo fan speed since that is the one used most and there fore burns out first. If the HHR uses this blower motor resistor, I would then say we know the problem. I will have to research this.

Did some searching on Auto Zone and they don't show this part being used after 2004. That must mean Chevy may have incorporated it into the switch and Snoopy would be correct. Years ago they used a multi speed motor but they cost more to make and cheap is all they know today.

So it was the actual fan motor? not a resistor assy, if so that means they have another part that doesn't last for years.
