I need some help/guidance.... I just finished replacing my transmission in my 07 LS... I wont go into the nightmare of finding the proper trans. So now that im done I throw it into reverse to pull out of the carport and it just revs really high and acts like it wants to move but no more than an inch... Can anyone give some advice please. I have a buyer coming for the vehicle this evening...

Unfortunately you've got a mess on your hands. There are several things to check first.

1. Is there fluid in the transmission? (I know, dumb question maybe, but I have to ask.)

2. Have you checked all the electrical connections on the transmission?

3. Do you have access to a scan too to pull the codes, or do you know anyone with a scan tool?

4. Have you checked the shift linkage for proper engagement?

5. Is the transmission the same model year as the HHR, it can make a difference because of changes in the TCM(Transmission Control Module) programming over the model years.

6. Did the vendor give you a warranty on the transmission?

7. How understanding is the buyer?

Sounds like maybe the torque converter is not all the way on the input shaft ot it's not connected to the flywheel.

 

My thoughts too.

 

I defiantly lined the torque converter up and bolted it to the flywheel... 3 short bolts. and i don't understand how the transmission would bolt up if the converter wasn't lined up & in the input shaft. I think I may go back to square one by draining the trans and adding new fluid. any other ideas?

 

Have you checked the pump on the transmission? If the pump is not working the car won't move.

 

Forgive me but what pump? where is it located?

& I know this is probably a rookie question but when replacing a transmission do you need to fill the torque converter with fluid before you bolt it in?.. or will it fill as you fill the tranny?

 

There's an internal oil pump in the transmission housing, check out page 15 of the PDF I e-mailed you, you actually have to break(open) the transmission case to get at it.

How many miles are on this transmission, and as unlikely as it may sound, you can bolt up the torque converter and still not have things exactly "right" to engage what needs to engage.

 

I am not sure if the hhr transmission has front and rear pump (most likely a front pump) I would check for pressure.

 

I see on Pg. 4 of the PDF that to fill when dry is 12Qts. everywhere else I read is 9. Thats where I'll start.

as for bolting the torque converter on.. I'm not sure. I made sure they were lined up and then bolted the flywheel to the converter. sound right?
