Hi Amanda, to the forums!
Have the ignition related recalls been performed? Check your status here https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gm-r...-status-50716/

Now Donbrew , the question was what possibly could be wrong.
And yes it could be several things, most common is the ignition recall.
Now a little more information please ,
what year is your HHR?
which engine? How many miles on the odometer?
how old is the battery?
was there any noises or smoke or other details, when it stopped.

indeed, a lot of reasons ...
But, if the engine simply stopped working and this moment was not accompanied by extraneous noise (crack, rumble, the sound of bursting metal, an explosion, etc.) ... If the engine purred peacefully, and then fell asleep peacefully ...
1. The fuel supply has stopped. A lot of reasons.
2. The power supply has stopped. There are fewer reasons, but also several.
I would start with electricity. Electric current to gasoline pump, battery, fuses, spark plugs, etc.

On a lot of forums a post like this is a "lead in" for another spammer that shows up at a later date with an answer to the question... Complete with a link to a malicious website.
