I will have to get it scanned again, i personally do not have a scanner so i took it to my local autozone and had them scan it when the light came on and the code that came up was for the purge valve. Also it is the 2.2 engine. As soon as i know more i will let you guys know what codes come up and if i have any luck. Thanks for all of the feedback i appreciate it.

We're here to help and information really helps us help you.
While you're under the HHR measure the diameter of the swaybar it should be 25 mm or appropriately 1 inch

So i didn't have it scanned again but i did jack it up today and put it on jack stands and was looking for places where suspension components were rubbing together or anything out of the ordinary. On my sway bar there is a spot where it has been hitting the frame and i could move the sway bar side to side and up and down. Could this be my thumping issue and should i go ahead and buy new bushings and brackets, seems pretty obvious to me but I'm not too sure because i don't know if play is normal with the pressure off of the tires or not?

Sway bar hitting the frame may be due to the sway bar links being other than the 10" ones. If I remember right, some members have tried the 12" ones and had interference problems.

Let's clarify, where is the sway bar hitting the frame , behind the engine or the lower control arm area ?
The long incorrect end links will touch the lower control arms

it's funny....the "part 2" video(replacing the end links) indicate that either the 10 inch or 12 inch links would work fine...he replaced the "original" 10 with 12 inch....knock gone. first video showed replacing the bushings....knock remained.
