Help With Silly Battery Cable Ends

2008 HHR SS. Don't know why GM went with this silly European "cam-lock" system for the +/- battery cable ends where they clamp to the battery posts but one of my "cams" (little metal bar that tightens the cable end when the chamfered nut is tightened) failed today and not available from GM apparently. I hate to change anything back there since I still have warranty and this seems like a good excuse for GM if something goes wrong, but I don't see a solution short of installing a normal cable end. Anyone had that thing fail and found a part number to order just the little metal cam??? My dealer said this little 1" hunk of potmetal junk is only available by ordering a dang 230" cable No local junkyards with HHR's right now either to rob from.

I would like to know where you would go about getting a Euro cable end to begin with. A customer of mine needed one, and I couldn't tell him where to go besides the dealer. We don't have them at our parts house.

While I concede that the cam style is very simple to use.....the fact GM used junk metal for the cam is just laughable. I guess a 1" piece of real steel would have broken the bank. And then telling me I have to buy a 15' long cable to get a replacement is just jaw-droppingly stupid.

But it would have been stronger..... and it would have self charged the battery.

Cut off the end of the cable and put a regular cable end on it.

That's what I did.....well actually stole the cam from the negative side and then replaced the short negative cable with a standard one. Just fear my dealer will see if I ever have to go in for electrical issues and claim it was my fault putting the new cable in
