How far can I drive????
#11
Thanks everybody.....I did make it to the dealer early Friday afternoon -- and they did fix it and like the pics I've seen, the rubber was all half popping out on opposite sides....So I'm good for now....I hope, cause after driving from Cincy to south of Columbus (Ashville) then to Chillacothie(?)--Biker Rodeo--then back up towards Columbus I got in and started her up to go get a paper Sunday morning and......no temp gauge or DIC.....commented about GM to myself.......and drove just 3 miles on that little trip, parked for several hours and later that evening went out and it was fine. Drove home yesterday and to work and back today and it hasn't done it since then.
Anyone have a "hic-up" after gettin it fixed?

I just changed mine. It took about 20 minutes (including locating dropped screws). Then went to autozone to have the code cleared. If you're going to have a shop change it for you, ask if they'll pro rate the job to the time it actually takes to change it. There's no way this job takes the 2 hours (almost) that the book claims.

btw, my old thermostat had been doing the "works when it wants to" bit for most of the summer. Mostly it worked, but occasionally it stuck for an hour or so. After looking at it once it was removed, it looks like a rubber seal had failed and was occasionally getting in the way and not allowing the thermostat to close properly. Still, it went nearly three years. Hopefully I get the same longevity out of this new one.
