How many miles untill you needed new break pads?

Hello All,

I now have 18,100 miles on my car. I'm still on the first set of breaks. I'm starting to notice its not as smooth the breaking as it use to be. I'm hopeing I can make it through the winter with them. My car is not due for service untill 19,000 miles. My old Ford Focus I was lucky to get between 12 - 15K before the breaks had to be replaced. I'm just curious how long and short people have gone with replaceing the stock breaks for the usually ware and tear issues

With lots of highway driving, I have gone close to 35,000 with my S-10, I have 22,000 on the HHR, rotated tires and no issues with anything but hitting deer.

The Dealership changed mine for free at 20,000 miles. I put on 3,500 miles a month and have my oil change every 2 months at 7,000 miles, I don't know if this will help but I purchased my HHr on the 18 of Feb 2006 and I have over 27,300 as of now. Good luck Bud!

I have just over 6500 miles on my HHR so I don't predict needing brake work anytime soon (It'll be a year old on December 18th). My 2001 S-10 got it's brakes replaced for the first time at just under 50,000 miles. It's all about driving style. You stop hard on a regular basis, you need brakes sooner rather than later.

Purchased 10-22-05. 27,674 miles and still have the original set. Mostly highway driving. I did have the rotors resurfaced.

SIHHR....

You can't really get a fair and factual comparison by asking what kind of mileage other people get on their brakes. Unless they drive the same or similar route and their style of driving is the same.

Hey, I had vehicles that I got 65,000 miles on brakes, 70,000 on tires. Both performed well over specifications or expectations. The vehicles were only used for weekly "runs" to California.....about 410 miles in each direction, and accumulated nearly 200,000 miles each without any unexpected expense.

So the point is.....it really depends on YOUR use application. In my opinion, if you asked something like, "What kind of mileage should I expect......?", would be more accurate. In this case, because you live and commute in the NYC area, I would probably say something like 20,000-25,000.

Otherwise, you're probably going to feel "cheated" or disappointment when others say 40,000-50,000 miles.
