We are trying to steer you in the right direction.

If the belt is worn/damaged or too loose, it can start to hum, vibrate, or make other weird noises. Look, if you are uncomfortable with diagnosing it yourself, just take it to a mechanic. Sometimes it just isn't worthwhile trying to diagnose something over the internet - especially noises.

Ahhh what drives the alternator? The belt - if it is damaged/slipping etc. it can't turn the alternator properly. If the alternator isn't turning properly, the charging system will turn on the red light.

An alternative issue may be that the alternator itself is shot and is not free-wheeling, causing a drag on the belt, but is kind of a long shot, and is not what one would normally expect.

And expecting to find the exact same noise on youtube videos is not at all likely. Best you take it to a shop, they can diagnose it in 5 minutes

Well, ended having to miss some work this morning. I took it in to a local shop of a guy we know. After diagnosis, his first words were "You're lucky the alternator didn't catch fire while you drove."

So yeah. Bad alternator. Hopefully nothing else pops up.

Oh, you forgot to mention the Alternator Light when talking about a noise coming from the vicinity of the alternator?

One more goose chase in the book.
