"I" gear rocks!

Q: What is the only car you can drive 55 on the freeway and throw in "L" ?

If you answered a "Rental Car" - you're wrong! The HHR trans has a computer algorithm that will not let the innards go into "L" until the vehicle slows to 25mph - even if the shifter is placed in Low. I found this out quite by accident and then talked with some GM types to confirm it.

Going 60 in D? Toss it into "I" and the trans will drop to 3rd, drop it down to low (and punch it!), and it will only drop to "I" - the trans will never, ever drop to 1st unless the vehicle speed is within the designated range. This makes for all sorts of fun autocross situations - especially if you are lowered and have the sway bar! Put the hammer down and enjoy - it's all good in the HHR!

What's this "I" gear you guys are talking about?

My shifter states 1-2-3-4-5-R That's the only way to drive.

The "I" gear is great in rush hour traffic, less braking.

Traffic every day. It is the only way to drive a small car with a 4-banger.

You'll never convince me.
Drove my son's toy truck (with 4-banger) into town 5 miles inching along, stop, go, stop, go,stop, go, etc.
Couldn't wait to get back in the HHR

I"LL NEVER own a stick again. Modern automatics just work too well.

I never want another stick shift, had one when I lived in LA, stop and go traffic, feels like your foots gonna burst into flames, and you have to keep using it.
Can`t switch feet.
