I got a flat tire!!! But had a question??

So today i noticed my car was driving weired well finally i noticed my Driver side rear tire was flat (From a stupid a** screw) not all the way but pretty damn close. Well i plugged the hole I probably put 10 or so mile on it before realizing it was gong flat. (I know You don't have to tell me) But after fixing and airing it up i drove it and it fells like I'm riding a horse carriage, I am a little new to lower profile tires keep this in mind. At first i thought sh** my rim is probably bent, well i adjusted my mirror so i could see the tire and rim, well the tire was like warped looking almost like the sidewall has a huge bulge in it, while moving it looked like it was going in and out, the rim didn't look bent, it seemed to be the tire. Do low profile tires damage easy when riding a flat? I'm sure since i put 10 miles on it, it has to be the tire.

Chad, you probably broke a belt in the tire...put one of your winter SS rim/tires on & take the one in question to the tire shop you deal with...they'll put it on the machine & see if the rim's bent.

What you have is what we in the biz call a "run flat" the sidewall plys are definately damaged and the tire should be replaced. You are more likely to get that with a low profile tire simply because you dont realize you have a flat until its too late. Most road hazard warrantys will cover run flat damage. Some wont. Good luck.

Your Lucky!

I had a screw in my SS (Michelin MXM4 225/45/18) last Thursday and the first shop I went to (Michelin dealer) said it was too close the the sidewall to patch. They wanted just under $300 for a new tire!!!! I thought I was being taken advantage of and left to go to my local shop (Goodrich & Michelin) only to find out that is about the correct price for a replacemet Michelin MXM4 - however, they took it apart and felt that it was able to be fixed - $16.

After looking on line at the various tire shops (NTB, PEP Boys, Tire Rack etc.) it does look like OEM replacement tires will cost more than a set of rims.

My shop did say that these are great tires and if I expect to keep the same performance level, I should expect to pay the price - proof to the old saying "IF YOU WANT TO PLAY, YOU HAVE TO PAY".
