I've just had the same problem happen to my HHR! My wife drives it to work yesterday and can't get the key to come out of the ignition, finally it comes out after about 30 min.No reason, she didn't do anything,it just came out. Then after work she comes home and it won't come out.I went out and it came out. This morning same thing. We've had this car for about 7 months so we both know how to operate it,and she parks in the same place every day.My best friend, who is a Chevrolet service writer says it is a known problem with Cobalts, and some HHR's.It's going to see him this morning!

every so often my key will not come out, I just hit the shifter with the palm of my hand a little when it is in park , key will turn. I know that the interlock system is out of adjust or sticky but a little bump no more thinking about it try it you will like it

There are some of us who no matter what we did with the shifter the keys would not come out. Finally after replacing the parts listed earlier in this thread, it was fixed. I had mine in there 3 times. My wife finally left it at the dealers and told them the keys are in it (won't come out) call us when you have it fixed.

All of the HHR's that I am have seen with 'key wont rotate back far enough to remove from ignition', have been fixed by replacing the shift control assembly. I know of about 6 or 7 like this, all fixed with the same part. This includes MY OWN hhr, which occurred last week. The shift control is too wimpy. I smell a campaign/recall coming.... trust me on this one....

Many have been fixed with a simple adjustment of the shift interlock mechanism.

Key Stuck

We got our HHR back from the dealer the other day, problem solved. They rented us a car until the part came in(part#15828149).It's my view that you shouldn't have to bump or beat on anything in a new car to get it to work properly,it needs the part replaced! This is a known problem, and the Fix is the part mentioned above. If your dealer gives you the "Big Runaround" show them this thread!
