Key problem with ign.

I had the same problem with the ign.The key would'nt go to lock to be removed.I was lucky and tried to go to park and finally got it to work.Took it to the dealer and they said they had problems with the shifter. They replaced the shifter and no problems since then.

Sorry for the lack of details but it was worth getting the message out.
It's all elec. switch at shifter, release at steering wheel

Our hhr is at the shop now for this malidy
The car is not performing its ignition trick though , the intermitant gremlin has struck again.

The tech spoke with GM and the TSB seems to be on the Cobalt, nopt the HHR

However, he says the part numbermentioned in this forum is indeed the part that is in both the HHR and Cobalt. He said the cost is around $400.00 but is free of course since it is under warrantee.

Still, dunno if they will replace it unless it breaks on cue, which it is not doing. It only breaks when it is inconvienient for us, not when it should!

Chevy dealer ordered the shifter for us. It'll be in in a week or so.

Thanks to all, as a print out of some of these forum posts was good ammunition to have. They were actually quite fine about it all and wanted to get to the bottom of it.

I just bought a Used HHR from local Chevrolet Dealer on Dec 22. I drove it home Friday evening, drove it Sat and then again on Monday. Tuesday the dealership came and picked it up to do an alignment on it for me (I worked this out when buying it) and I got it back Tuesday evening the 26th. I drove it to work on Wednesday and on the way home I decided to stop at the store. When I turned off my HHR the key would not come out. I fought that thing for 20 minutes in the parking lot. I ended up starting it back up and driving it home thinking I could better look at it while home. I got home and the ky would not come out so I said screw it and proceeded inside. I went back out later after calming down and the key removed fine. Not sure why when it sat there for 30 minutes it released the key. I decided to research the problem and found this site BIG THANKS!! I called the dealer on Thursday morning the 28th with all the info I found from this site. The dealer came back to my house and got the HHR (left me a car to drive) and said they wouldn't be able to look at it until Friday. I just got a call yesterday saying they ordered the part and should have it today. I got a call today from the dealer saying the warehouse didn't have the part so they are getting it from a different place. The dealership informed me that it might be two more days.

Now I am thinking I should have accepted the extend warranty offer that was brought to me in the finance office!!
I am luckily still covered by extended warranty as my vehicle only has 11,000 miles on it. It is frustrating that I only got to really drive it three or four times before it went in. I still have the drive out tag hanging in the rear window. I do like the vehicle though. Thanks again to these forums that helped me... and the dealer!
