Accaptain,

We the same issue with our HHR. That and we had a bad fuel pump that would make it hard to start. Since they have fixed those issues, we have had no other problems. It starts great and we can remove our keys :-)

I will say I am a little dissapointed at the issues we did have. This is the first new car we purchased in the price range we paid for it. It would have been nice not to have any issues, and I think in the future we will not purchase a new car the first year it comes out...I might change my mind though when I see the new Camaros on the lot :-)

Welcome to the site.

Don

I drove it to work on Wednesday and on the way home I decided to stop at the store. When I turned off my HHR the key would not come out. I fought that thing for 20 minutes in the parking lot. I ended up starting it back up and driving it home thinking I could better look at it while home. I got home and the ky would not come out so I said screw it and proceeded inside. I went back out later after calming down and the key removed fine. Not sure why when it sat there for 30 minutes it released the key. I decided to research the problem and found this site BIG THANKS!! I called the dealer on Thursday morning the 28th with all the info I found from this site. The dealer came back to my house and got the HHR (left me a car to drive) and said they wouldn't be able to look at it until Friday. I just got a call yesterday saying they ordered the part and should have it today. I got a call today from the dealer saying the warehouse didn't have the part so they are getting it from a different place. The dealership informed me that it might be two more days.

Now I am thinking I should have accepted the extend warranty offer that was brought to me in the finance office!!
I am luckily still covered by extended warranty as my vehicle only has 11,000 miles on it. It is frustrating that I only got to really drive it three or four times before it went in. I still have the drive out tag hanging in the rear window. I do like the vehicle though. Thanks again to these forums that helped me... and the dealer!
Sorry to see you joined this portion of the HHR club
But if your dealer is decent, a few printouts from this forum will get the fix going.
My dealer called and has the part in, now to make the appointment........

Welcome to the forum, hopefully all your other posts will be about the fun and uniqueness of the HHR experience. Most experiences ARE fun and don't lead down the TSB path, though when they do, a good dealer will make all the difference.
Hopefully all is well soon.

Took my HHR to Chevy Chase Chevrolet in Bethesda, MD. No questions asked repaired to TSBs -- jamming of the ignition and the radio popping. Excellent service.

I got a call from the dealer on Wednesday and they said that the part was not in stock at the warehouse. I said what does this mean and they told me the part had to be made and shipped out but they told me it could be thursday or today. I called Thursday just out of curiousity to see if the part arrived and they told me that the part didn't come in and that it just shipped out on the 2nd. I asked if it would come overnight and they said no Gm ships it out UPS ground. This is a real disappointment to me seeing as I haven't even driven it but four times since I purchased it. The dealership is very nice and I understand there hands are tide until the part arrives but I wish I could complain to someone and not affect my dealer relationship. I just think that GM could a least ship the part(s) overnight to there dealerships.

One funny thing is that I got a sale ad from my dealership in the mail and they already had my trade-in listed for sale!! The dealer has gotten more use of my drive out tag on the HHR than I have. This Sucks!! Yesterday made 1 week that they have had my car. I do have a Malibu that the dealer is letting me drive... it's just not the same!

Hmmm, that seems strange.

Several members who needed "emergency" parts have indicated the parts were being shipped overnight or 2nd day. I wonder if the shipment terms need to be requested, and the dealer forgot.

About 3 years ago, I needed a complete steering unit for a warranty repair. the parts were shipped overnight.

Seems like the cost of expedited shipping would be far smaller than the rental vehicle expenses, for the additional days of the regular shipping.

Believe it or not, shipping stuff overnight can be quite expensive - overnight shipments of small items can run pretty steep. I used to work retail in a previous life, and even then shipping items overnight ran around $40; add Saturday delivery to that and it went up to about $60 at times. It does depend on size and weight, as well as where it's being shipped to and from, but the prices I remember still exceeded the current daily costs for a rental. And that was a few years ago; I'm sure it's gone up since then because of "fuel surcharges" that shippers frequently tack on.

Good point, PhxHHR....

But, GM does not pay on the same rate schedule that "regular" people do.

When I left GM, seven years ago, they were doing about $600 million annually with UPS. This gives the company, through the buyer, tremendous leverage in negotiating rates. Hell, GM shipped things through UPS that generally you and I were not permitted to ship....because of size, etc. That may have changed, the preferred shipping company may have changed, the COUNTRY HAS changed.

So, your point is still well made !!

That could be the deal with shipping. Regardless of there cost it all comes down to or should come down to keeping your customer happy. A happy customer buys your product or uses your services again. I happy customer gets there vehicle quickly returned to them because there part was shipped overnight. I guess I wouldn't feel so bad if I didn't have a drive out tag hanging in the rear window of it. You know it's bad when the service dept has your new vehicle more than you.

I know I have done nothing but complain about the situation... I really do like the HHR or else I wouldn't have bought one. I am looking forward to owning it once it is properly fixed. I look at upgrades everyday for it on the web, I'm hooked.

I got my HHR back yesterday. The dealer got the part Sat they told me via Fedex. Not sure why the shipping company changed all of a sudden but I don't care. The service dept is closed on Sat so they got it fixed Monday morning. The dealer reprogrammed the control module for the radio pop and replaced the gear shifter switch. All seems good now.
