Ignition Key Removeal
Seems that a lot of HHR owners are having trouble turning the ignition key to the off position to remove the key. Has anyone heard if there are plans at GM for a recall. This also creates safety concerns because the shifter and steering will not lock if the ignition is not turned all the way off. I began having this problem a few weeks ago and to this point am still pushing the switch under the steering column through the access hole on the occaisions the key will not turn all the way. The dealer did not have the part needed for repair. My HHR is out of warranty, only 2 years old but has 50K miles. Can anyone tell me a fair price for the part and labor?

You didn't say which part they were replacing, but I suspect the shifter assembly. Depending on labor rates and part pricing somewhere between $350 and $400 to replace a shifter assembly. Ask the service manager for help. See if he will let you pay a portion of the repair and Chevrolet the remainder since it is a known problem. Use tact and he/she may assist you.

I was presently surprised after a thermostat in my 06 failed at 38,000. I returned to pick up my HHR and found the repair was taken care of under warranty.
I had expected to have to pay for it. Even got the loaner for free.

I keep trying to tell everyone. CHEVY ROCKS! Over 10% of warranty repairs are done after the warranty has expired.
