The car is more that six months old, it's a 2010. The cylinder problem is farily common, fortunalely, you were able to get it repaired under warranty. What other problems are you having?

I lube the locks every time I change oil. Most locksmiths sell the spray lube for this purpose. Graphite or moly lubes that don't leave a sticky residue work best. Don't have a bunch of keys on the ring with the vehicle key either.

Stuck key

This happened to me April 13th, 2012. I stopped to get gas and put the car in park. The car would not turn off. I popped the little cover under the steering wheel and could not get the lever to release the key.

Called Ford dealership where I purchased it used. They told me to bring it to them which is 40 miles away. 3 mechanics could not get the key out. (one is a previous GM mechanic.) The car was still running when I left.

Yesterday the service department called and told me the cylinder had seized up and it was covered by the extended warranty from Ford that I had purchased. Also, the key was bent and they had to give me a new key.

Today I picked my car up and paid my $100 deductible, instead of the $385 on the invoice. Started my car to come home and the engine light did not go out. I went back in to the service department and told them the engine light was on. The service guy told me that GM told them it would reset after a few cycles. Is this normal or not? I do not see why it would have to go thru a couple cycles to go off.

I told him if it does not go off I will be calling and bringing it back to them in a day or two.

That's how my 06 is since new. Weird. Wonder if they changed it on the later models?

Usually a pending code will clear itself in 3 cycles if the root code does not return. This has happened with my GMT325 vehicles (Chevy S10 & Olds Bravada) and the code cleared as expected (engine light went off by itself). This was PD PO300 (Random misfire). Coincidentally I had the same code once with my HHR and it would not clear by itself, I cleared it with a scanner and it never returned.

Ok, thanks for the info! Since they are 40 miles away if the code does not go away I guess I will ask my boss to clear the code for me.
I work in a hydraulic repair shop and we have a few scan tools.
