I'm an idiot
OK I had a blond moment tonight. I took my little girl to swimming lessons, and we were running late, so not thinking about it, I shove my keys in my pocket and jump in the pool. It was a good 10 minutes before I realized what I had done. So now I'm wondering if this will have any long term affect on my fob. If over time it will corrode and stop working. So far it's still working, so perhaps I'll get lucky and all will be well. I feel like such an idiot.

shake off excess water. Open key fob and shake off excess water. Use cotton swab or tissue to remove remaining water if any.
To open key fob, take it off the key ring. Then look closely at the seams. Look for a small gap in the seam. Pry open with flat screw driver or something similar.

Not salt water, so let it dry, perhaps speed up the drying by putting it in front of a fan...?
Sorry to hear of this. I've done the same with memory cards for my digital cameras. I have dried them out and had no lingering effects that I can tell.

It shouldn't affect it at all. The rubber that the buttons are made out of are actually part of a seamless sheet of rubber that completely seals the top and the seams of the fob. I would still take it apart and dry it.
The only reason I know about their water resistance is I was unfortunate enough to take a spill in a canoe with my keys on me. Thankfully I keep my keyring clipped to my belt.

Don't feel so bad, I was camping a couple of weekends ago and went down to the beach with my buddies. We went for a swim and I had my camera in my pocket. I didn't notice until half an hour later that I had something weighing me down.
The camera is toast now and it was only a year old. But, it gives me a chance to buy the new waterproof (to 33 feet) Olympus camera. I'll give the waterproof feature a test in Mexico in November!

I used to be a blond. My hair turned brown as I got older, but for all my childhood I was blond . Thanks everyone. Mike, it was defintily a dad on the run moment. Between little league and swimming lessons I'm about to go

I drop a cell phone into the water. I shook all the water out and got one of those cans of air (I had in my desk drawer) and sprayed everything out of the phone. I worked flawlessly for the next two years until I replaced it with something better. I powered it up a couple of months ago and still was working.
