Or more. R&R the compressor is just part of it. Recovery, evacuate and recharge is the other. And most AC shops will recommend to replace other things that may have gotten compressor debris in them. Expansion valves and such.
Done correctly, it’s never just as simple as a compressor swap.

I’d call around and get some quotes.

You could save a bunch by doing the wrenching yourself; let a pro do the evacuation and charging. Technically illegal to release the freon into the atmosphere.

I had not thought of it before but should I be getting a check engine light for any of these A/C problems?

No. But some CELs can disable the AC. Some will make the automatic transmission shift hard.

So, It seems I got off easy. I did, of course, have to pay for the evac and recharge and diagnosis which was $325.00. The reason the A/C wasn't working was the relay for the Compressor was bad. Total bill was $390.00. I appreciate the help and suggestions I got from those who responded. Thanks.

He’s got a knack of being right, but at least you’re gonna know to change the thermostat, ACDelco 131-158 180 F degrees.
