I always been told that dodge minivans engines and trannies were junk especially the pre mid 90s. So when I bought my 99 caravan in 01 I thought I would ended up with a better van then they had been known for. NOPE!!!!! Not a full week after buying the damn thing it was in the shop for a new tranny. Only cost me 115.00 since it was all covered by the warranty still. Then 2 years later it was back in the shop for another tranny which was all out of my pocket, because the new one I'd just got only had a 1 yr warranty. So 1800.00 bucks later I got it back and now 4 years later its acting up again and I believe it will soon need another, which I refuse to do again, so we are taking it easy on it and going to turn it in for something NOT dodge, except maybe a PT if we find a sweet deal on one, just cause its good on gas and cheap, and besides then the HHR will have something at home to pick on and intimadate
You know they will find a way to weasel outta most of the issues this warranty covers, I'd place $$$ on it if I had any

Of course you have to watch your mileage.. so far we havn't had anyproblem .. we just take the hhr when were not having to haul alot junk with us..
We had a ford explorer that went up to 175K and started nickel and dimeing me every month.. and that when I decided leaseing was a better dela for us..
If I go over on the mileage I'll buy the honda and sell it.. I already know a few people that will be interested and I got two more years on the lease..

Ive heard similare stories about caravan.. So we bought a honda odysee.. its about to have it 1st birthday and the only complaint Ihave is carpet stays dirty.. but with kids what do you expect... Another way to avoid the tranny problem is to lease your vehicle.. transmission and motor should last three years and then you can remount on a fresh horse..

Chrysler just did not hold up its end of the bargain with the six trannies I went through, so we went Honda Odyssey. No choice, all the domestic manufacturers are getting out of minvan world and going crossover while Chrysler does keep trying to get it right But to late for us to bank on it.

I had a Chrysler car once. ONCE! I bought a Daytona Turbo. It had like 1000 miles on it. Bought it from the Dodge dealer. I brought it in two days later as it had a loud hiss coming from somewheres around the pass side under the dash or behind the pass front wheel. They said it was normal. About a year later the damn thing lost some of its power and ran like crap. Noticed the boost gauge wasnt going as high. Took it to dodge and they said it was dirty injectors and to run a couple cans of injector cleaner through it. No help took it back in and they said it was bad injectors. Had them replaced. Car ran a little better but not like when I got it. Spent close to 1000 with the dealer to get it fixed. Still didnt run right. Finally got so pissed off that I tried fixin it myself. Figured there had to be something with the boost. Went to find out why boost gauge was low. Got under the dash and traced down the rubber tubing and found a Y that seperates the boost pressure sensor line had a huge crack in it. One side of the line went to the gauge. The other went to the computer. This is why I had that hiss sound. Replaced the line with a silicon one and bamn my car ran better than when I got it. It took me an hour to fix the damn thing.
I decided to never own a chrysler product again. Simple damn problem that the dealer couldnt fix. Friggin idiots. I never even got reimbursed for the repairs they did that didnt fix the problem.

The whole thing screams desperation to me and in a way it seems to cheapen them even more. I don't think that GM or any other manufacturers should follow Chrysler for that reason. It really only applies to people who buy a car and drive it till the wheels fall off. Most people buy cars every couple years so they can have the latest and greatest. What do they mean by "lifetime" are they really going to warranty a car thats 70 or 80 years old?

I have to say I owned 6 Chrysler products and had no major issues with them. Slam them if you want but my experiences were great. I bet somewhere out there others are slamming GM as junk and some may be slamming the HHR (even happens here). Everyone has opinions and everyone has bad experiences. That does not make the whole line a bad product.
When GM announced they were uping their powertrain warranty to 5 years, it was cited as having confidence in their product. So why when Chrysler offers something like this is it desperation? Maybe they just have great confidence in their products??
But I guess since the big three now have less than 50% market share in the US, a lot of Americans must feel that all GM, Chrysler and Ford products are junk for one reason or another. A shame really.

sort off topic but... Today while setting at a stop light I noticed there were 3 pt losers and three hhrs all at the same intersection...... before i bought my hhr i never even noticed how many there are out there.. I guess I was unique for about 30 seconds.... that worse than buying a computer and being old news before you get it out of the box.......

GM can say that they have confidence in their product, but underneath it all, it's the same thing....an incentive to purchase, give the consumer confidence in the product.
The domestic automakers are being forced to do these kind of things to show consumers that their product is just as good as the imports.
