Interior Lights

Interior Lights
I just purchased a 2008 LT with the 2.4L high output engine, and I need to find out something about the interior lighting. When I get out of the vehicle, and close the doors, the headlights and the interior lights stay on. The headlights turn off, but the interior dome light and map lights (in the rear view mirror) stay on. They stay on for at least 15-20 minutes. Is this normal? Also, the map lights stay on while I am driving, and I am unable to turn them off with the on/off buttons. I have tried everything, including the instrument panel brightness control that should turn on the interior lights when turned all the way to the right, like all other Chevrolet's. I called the dealership, and they want me to take it in. They do not know what is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

to the site!!!
No this is not normal. They should fade out 20 seconds after all the doors have been closed or the key is removed from ignition. They should also turn off when the ignition is turned to ON.

could just be the dome light switch above the back seat is turned to the on position instead of the door position. I am pretty sure it controls the map lights too. If that doesnt do it, look at all the door jamb switches. everything is plastic these days and the nub could be broken off. Good luck.

Map lights staying on
My 2007 does the same thing. The map lights will not turn off while driving. I have checked the door switches and everything looks and acts normal. Does anybody know how to fix this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

OK, dragged out the service manuals on this and once you've eliminated the door switches your next step is to look towards the BCM. The BCM for the new folks here is the module that controls the functions that aren't controlled by the powertrain modules. The dimming function on the interior map lights and dome light is a logic function in the battery rundown protection circuit. Head to your dealer and have them pull the code/codes from the vehicle and they can determine if one has been set by the BCM and reflash it which should clear up the problem.
