The boot on my intermediate steering shaft broke and I can't seem to find a replacement where you don't have to buy the whole shaft. Does anyone know if the boot is available on its own and, if so, what the part number is? I really don't want to spend that much $$$ when I only need the boot!

Hey, you have to take the shaft out to get at the boot, you might as well install a new shaft. Now, I did not attempt to take the two pieces of the shaft, where it slides together, perhaps it comes apart and the boot slides right off.
Anybody, have you taken the shaft apart??

Why I say this is maybe it is possible to repair it, when it's out.
I never have done it myself, but if it's like the inner tube that is used in some tires, maybe you can glue/vulcanize it back together.
I think you get my idea.

I replaced the shaft 2 years ago, but it appears that at some point, the part of the boot that touches the shaft started to stick, so when I turned, it pulled and twisted on the boot until it actually ripped out the inner ring. There's no repairing this one.

I'd be interested to hear if the shaft can be taken apart though. Not that it would make much difference. If the boot isn't available separately I don't think a rubber boot is the kind of part I should be salvaging. I imagine I'd do damage trying to remove an old boot at a u-pull-it seeing as how hard it is to squeeze those in.

yes u can get them apart i found the fastest way was to die grind the small ding they put in the shaft if u clean it u will see it on the female shaft i tried to hammer it and get it too slide apart and it did not work so i die grinder it and walls they fell apart u can reding it after u change the boot , hope it helps , lmk i have a boot , and the 2 parts are splint to fit back as u took it apart or u could be half off u will c when its apart
