Jumpy boost gauge and car surging?

My husband took the car out last night to go run erends with a friend. He calld me and said that when they were driving the car the boost gauge would go up to 15 when he hit the gas and then drop down to around 8 and then jump back and forth rapidly from 8-12 ish. He also complained that the car would surge really hard when he hit the gas around 40. I have had it doing this since I bought the car with the old turbo and the new one but he keeps insiting it is not okay and not normal. He also said he had the car floored and couldn't get past 80.

I took the car out last night but couldn't recreate it, and had no problem going over 80 and in typical male form I am stupid since i can't recreate it but I also know taking it to the dealership when it is not a consitant problem they are just going to tell me they can't recreate it.

No stage 1 instailled, just had a new turbo instailed about 2 weeks ago.

The only time I have experienced what you are describing, is when I don't let the car warm-up properly. Weird! You punch it and it bogs down, after a couple of minutes of normal driving this has dissappeared. I'm not an expert but I think VACUMN is playing a part in this.

Yeah I always give it time to warm up as I live on a hill and with the auto I don't have breaks if I don't let it warm up.
He said it happened the whole time he was out.

We both went out this morning again and couldn't duplicate it.

oh also how offten do you all have to clean your exhaust tips? After 2 weeks mines pitch black and I actually burnt my finger when I wiped it out today.

Every time I wash the car(weekly). This is normal since our cars run rich because of the turbo.
Have your husband follow you down a dark road and then get on it. He should be able to see a little bit of flame on the upshifts.

It also has to do with the way the turbo cools the gasses as they leave the eng...as u all know no stock eng completely burns all the fuel( full on modified eng are the only type that can get 100 % burn)..the fuel actually continues to burn in the pipes but the turbo actually has a cooling effect thereby you get soot from the partially burned gasses.....remember the air pumps? They added air to the exhaust to reburn the leftovers....
