Key Fob Broke

Both of my key fobs have broke. At first i thought the batteries were bad, so when i went to buy new batteries, and took apart the key fob and found the metal clip that holds the batteries to the key fob was broken off on both of them. Can i just buy new ones off of ebay and program them myself?

Josh

If you aren't real handy, Radio Shack can usually repair it quickly. I had to replace my battery, and I went to my local RS and when we opened it mine was broke as well. He soldered it in a jiffy for free. My solder set was deep in the garage, so it worked well for me.

I had to repair both of mine and both of then on my dads car. I like the idea of repairing them because more than likely new ones would fail after a year also.

The short answer is NO you cannot program it yourself, unless you have a Tech II scanner a know how to use it. A new fob will run about $100 and programming will be what ever the dealer charges for minimum shop time (probably $79 or so). Resoldering is not difficult, but delicate work. I have fixed three now, the problem is not isolated to GM.

I would hit a buddy up to fix it for you if you cannot as this is a very common problem. The hubs has had to fix one of mine before. It stinks you cannot program these yourself since you can on alot of vehicles.
