Hello Folks,
I am now the owner of two HHRs. I figured with two it is time to join. The newest one's key fob only works when next to the vehicle. i.e. door locks and remote start. I installed a new battery in the fob, but still a problem. What is the problem and the solution? I am thinking an antenna problem. Would it be the fob or car? Thanks.

According to the profile, we’re dealing with a 2010 SS , Donbrew, so that 08 module problem shouldn’t apply, now I have experienced cheap batteries for the fob don’t work as well as Energizer or Duracell batteries.

 

But. 1st post says they own 2 HHR's. So like Don asked, year and model. The 2010 SS or the other unknown one.

 

I was periodically having problems like you mention and like Oldblue says about the contacts. I tried some home remedies that kinda worked for a while. Then I bought these and no problems ever since.

 

I am sorry. The problem is with the 2010 HHR SS. The other HHR is a 2008.

I installed an Energizer lithium battery.

 

I was having a similar issue with my 2007, where it seemed like it was a distance from the car situation at first. It then became intermittent even if I was close to the car, and then stopped working all together. The copper/gold contacts on the key fob circuit board were clean, the battery was fresh and a known brand, still didn't work. It was the rubber contacts in the fob. I replaced the housing and rubber pad with new and used my old circuit board and now they are as good as new.

 

That’s what I had for Oldblue, new case and rubber keypad fixed it.
