Thumbs down Keyfob remote will lock but won't unlock

I got a 2010 HHR 2.2/slushbox today. Both keyfobs will lock the doors and set the alarm off, but neither will unlock them. The batteries were recently replaced. I did some online searching and I couldn't find a solution. Help!

I would bet that the rubber part of your key fobs are not making contact. The rubber contact pad is avalable on ebay.

You can test your fobs by taking them to an auto parts store that has a tester. Be sure to test all the buttons.

Some people on here has had good luck sticking a small peace of tin foil to the rubber contact with glue. I would call that a temp. Fix

I took apart the fobs and one of the rubber inserts had a tear in it. I just ordered some replacement fobs from ebay and I'm waiting for them to come in. Can I test the fobs by taking them apart and touching a piece of metal to the contact areas on the circuit board?

Yes.

You do know that new fobs will need to be programmed with a special computer?

Yes. If you replace the complete fob you will have to get them programed to the car if you just replace the rubber pad you will not need to reprogram.

If you ordered complete fobs I would try switching over just the key pad first before I went through the expense of having the new ones programmed. May save you some pretty good coin.

You can order just the FOB case, which comes with a new rubber button pad. I ordered one from Amazon, for about $5.00, which solved the non-functioning problem I had 100%. No re-programming, just move the electronic board and battery to the new case.

I just ordered the case with the rubber insert, not the entire fob.

I touched the contacts to a metal object and the doors unlocked, so hopefully the new rubber buttons will fix the issue.
