leaky a/c condensor

on my way home from work i turned on the a/c but there was only hot air blowing.... i eyed the gauges all the way home and rolled the windows down to keep it a little cooler. when i arrived home i popped the hood and noticed a green antifreeze like substance all over the condensor. i found out that the system had dye in it which is green....... i looked up a few sites on this same issue and they are saying that warranty dont cover it but to claim it on insurrance instead.. i dont think that its a coincidence that there is a buch of people with this problem. there is no visible damage at all on the radiator or condensor except for a few dead bugs. it had to be a precise hit for something that small to do damage/also it has to be weak materials to allow it to happen so easy.has anyone ran into this problem before. i seen the post of the tire tread but thats obvious damage, i have none... i did take pictures of the condensor so if the dealer tries to pull some crap, i will show them my pics.. also my car has died when pulling out onto the road from a parking lot.. i know this is a different post so i will stop at that... can anyone let me know what the chances of the warranty covering it is...

Why won't it be warranty? If there is no visible damage! Why was dye in the system?

Its not because they will claim that a rock did it, its just like a rock chip in there eyes. And i wish r-134 always had dye in it, it would make life so much easyer. But this is the reason that alot of people do the cheep grille mod, but a billet looks and works so much better.

Slightly sounds like a SoCal A/C issue. His condenser took a rock through the lower grille area, hope its not true, but one of the best mods you can do is the CJ lower grille mesh mod, it only costs around $5.00 or less.

if you read the sticker on the radiator shroud above the condensor, it states that the a/c system has dye in it meaning from the factory. i would have good grounds to argue if they say it was a aftermarket leak detection dye since it clearly states on the sticker it contains it. i will be doing a lower grill mod of somesort but i wanna make sure they fix the problem at hand. i will buy the part myself and do it like i do everything else, but warranty is there for a reason and how ironic is it that this has happened to a few people on townhall talk on the edmunds site and im sure there are others. i say shabby workmanship and materials. they know that its the first thing the wind catches when it goes through the grill, why make it defective. i will keep you posted what the dealer says.

well, they wont cover it. the gm rep. went and looked at it and said "its no different than a winshield chip but agreed that it was a poor design on chevys behalf" he said if there is enough people who complain then maybe the designer will rethink the design and fix them but until there is alot of complaints to not count on it. i took pictures of it and there is no evident marks but the dealer and rep both say its hazzard and not poor equipment and design......also if any of you are in michigan i strongly suggest you stay clear of Hank Graff Chevrolet. they are rude and everytime i had my vehicle in there it was scratched and had grease on the seat. Bill Hobson is a miserable cuss and they dont realize this little bit of mistreatment is why people shy away from chevrolet. i have had excellent experiences with ford but i thought i would give chevy a chance. but i guess they wanna keep going jobless and giving sales to foreign car companies...im buying vw next.

We`ve had a few people get damage in the lower grill area, and the BEST solution, and almost the cheapest, is the "C.J." lower grill mod.
I do believe that he`s the innovator and a YR-1er, who came up with this idea, and that`s the reason we have the YR-1 club... (cheap plug)

With no visible damage you may have a better chance of having it covered under warranty, unless the particular dealer you visit has had a bunch of these and goes looking for the damage. I had the same problem in July '06 except that damage was pretty noticeable. A small rock/debris hit next to the seam on the lower passenger side of the condenser. It left a silver dent the size of dime. Luckily I found that others had this problem before I took it the dealer and made the damage a little less noticeable by bending some fins back into place and using a little black paint. The dealer covered it with out question. A little sneaky but on a 6 month old car I wasn't about to shell out $700 for a new condenser because of a poor design. I did the "CJ lower grill Mod" as soon as I got the car home. No problems since....Good Luck.

I can tell you for a fact the system has dye in it. They recently replaced my hoses under the TSB and I brought it back in after I got the keys back because of the dye crap they left of the bumper and under the hood. Got a nice detail job out of it.

I FOUND NO VISIBLE DAMAGE. i took the pics before i took it in and the spot they said was the leak didnt even appear on the pic. how do they actually test these to find the leak ? or do they just make a half educated guess and show you what might have caused the leak. if i do the work myself, i will check it for leaks when its on the bench, if its not where they say it is and it happens to be in a spot where nothing has hit it.. everyone better watch the news because im callin' in the anchors................
