Leather seats bunching?
I've never had leather before but noticed this on my drivers seat...seems like the leather is stretched a bit here and "looser"...may be hard to see but I think you can tell what I mean
Normal on GM leather?

This, I would consider to be normal for the leather seats on an HHR. I have this as well. But because this is an inexpensive car with cheaper leather material I didn't bring it to anyones attention.
I've had other GM vehicles with leather that did not have this happen. These seats had a different design though, they did not have one flat seating surface but they had a number of sections running up and down the seats (hopefully you can picture the type of seat design.)
If you don't like the look to much pop into an upholestry shop and ask them if they could stretch the leather so that the looseness goes away.

Yes, I know what you mean by the other seats...I think the leather in the 2000-2005 Impalas is just like the HHRs iirc.
Not a big deal, just wondering if people who have had their HHRs longer than me have had any problems like ripping etc in this spot

With the exception of 1 truck, I have had leather seats in all of my vehicles for the past 20-25 years. They ALL experienced some type of "distortion". Generally, it's nothing to worry about as long as SOME maintenance is performed. I even have the same weathering in my leather furniture (2 leather wing backs are 30 years old...couch and loveseat are a couple years old). I believe it's inherent to the material...it's generally called "character".
Oh, and if I remember correctly, GM changed the type of leather used right around 1999-2000. I can't remember the technical terms any longer, but when I ordered leather material for GM Research/Design for advanced products, I remember the spec.'s were different than previously. It was to provide a softer seating area.
Anyhow don't worry about it. It's leather.

My seats do the same thing. keep the leather conditioned and don't let it dry out and you shouldn't have any problems. In fact I have noticed that after conditioning it helps restore the shape somewhat. Sun, Heat, UV and dryness will destroy leather seats. I use Meguiars Gold Class Rich Leather Aloe Conditioner (NOT the stuff with cleaner in it) and apply it liberally with a terry towel, making sure I don't leave any behind in the seams. By the time I am done the seats have a nice soft feel that is better than when they were new.

Good advise, db.....
I would only add.....SWEAT(perspiration, for you snobs)...to the list things that destroy leather seats (actually I think I was told the combination of human sweat and oils).
Driving without a shirt (guys only, woman I have no objection ) and driving with shorts are the to areas of concern. Leather should be cleaned (damp cloth is ok) afterward.
