Mine has the same issue wouldn't call it a problem though.
Is that gasoline? or the other kind?

My sister has a Hummer and a Cadillac truck (whatever it's called) and both have the same problem. Only their stretching is on the outside of the seat. They sit so far off the ground, you tend to stretch the leather as you slide out.

FWIW, the only real leather on seats are the back/cushion inserts, and upper back and front cushion facings. The bolsters, side/front/top facings are vinyl or carpet. That's why they call it leather trimmed or leather seating surfaces. The third row benches of vehicles are ALL vinyl and carpet.

Third row....vinyl and carpet? Is there an HHR option I never heard about or are you talking about the back row on the HHR? I have 06 with the leather seating surfaces and the back seats seem to be the same material as the fronts. If it's vinyl ok but what carpet except for what's on the floor?

Sorry, I wasn't specifically talkinng aout the HHR. Most SUV's and minivans have three rows of seating. Alot of manufacturers have gone to carpet on the front facing of the cushions (vertical) and the back of back. Inner side facings of 60/40 or 50/50 folding seats are usually carpet. Alot of times the backs are covered with a hardboard carpeted panel. Carpet is only $3/yard, compared to vinyl which can range from $6/yard to $18/yard, depending on the thickness of foam/backing bonded to it.

I was told by a service tech that the "leather seating surfaces" were actually Faux leather. I am having my cloth seats which are looking a little distored on the back edge after 8 months, real leather covers this spring. I was going to get a set of HHR Leather from a salvage yard but did not want the faux leather I want real leather. The cost of getting a set from a salvage yard w/shipping and getting custom will be about the same.

Just goes to show.....you should never trust a service tech for information they know nothing about !!!

And, he does not know what he is talking about. The seating surfaces, as desribed above, are REAL leather. I've had the passenger leather seat cover off and "looked at" by a long standing and very reliable upholstery shop (for a mod.).

I'm sorry (just a little) for being so blunt/harsh . But it just pisses me off when people provide absolutely false information or obviously lie. Your "technician" is one of them.

It is however, different, if whatever is stated is based expressly on an opinion and they, themselves, believe it. Then it's just a mistake. A technicain should know better.

The leather has a thin vinyl coating. So leather conditioners are not needed.

Much of today's leather is vinyl coated which is a good thing, Drop some water on it and leave it. it will not soak in. You can rubb the color out either with a white rag like you would be able to do if it were not coated with vinyl.
