That would not bode well for you in an arbitration.

So much for mexican labor in building the HHR..no muffler, how'd that get by? Not giving me much confidence in the GM builds.

There is no issue with removing the muffler, the resonator and cat are still in tact, and where the muffler was has been replaced with a piece of straight pipe and attached to the hangers just like it was before.

Plus, there is no warranty on the exhaust to begin with. Plus, I did indeed check with the dealer before removing it, just to make sure it was fine and they werent going to void anything because of it.

No Muffler

Question:

2008_hhr_ss, do you feel GM will perform whatever or allow a trade when your HHR has had the muffler removed, that is being referred to as a Lemon ?

Yes, by law they are required to because the muffler being removed has nothing to do with the problem at hand. I can argue it all day, but that would be like saying that painting the body would cause the transmission to destroy itself 5 times.

Aw hellllll... more Intarwebnet legal scholars.

With reference to your reallllly bad analogy, while it would be difficult to show proximate cause of a transmission failure to having altered the paint, you are talking about the engine misfiring and otherwise performing improperly. Interestingly enough, if you follow all those whacky tubes on the back of the motor, you will see that they are connected to (or should be) the muffler. Changing the exhaust gas flow characteristics could be DIRECTLY tied to the engine problems you are seeing (and maybe they're not... just don't stand with such righteous indignation as is evinced in your reallllly bad analogy). If muffler/exhaust modifications didn't affect engine performance, there wouldn't be a multi-zillion dollar industry built around aftermarket exhaust components.

Oh wow, I don't know what to think now. Any other mods in this lemon-rice souffle?

Why do you think the exhaust system isn't warrantied? Surely that falls in the 3 year bumper to bumper? And then you've got the federal emissions warranty, which is now voided.

I'm no lawyer, but I'm thinking you won't get any settlement without all the original equipment installed. At least not a favorable one.

that maybe one of the problems..no muffler..maybe getting sum detonation in the pipe itself..we have also found that these engines run rich..try a stage one power program..lean it up..see what happens..been there with the lemons..the lemon law is there to protect the vendor not you..dont be fooled..had a truck that went through 9 turbos in 6 months..3 ecms..top end 4 times..injectors..etc..etc..hope laws are different in the US than here..unless vehicle is deemed unsafe or unfixable good luck...being the muffler has been removed(?)or never installed...backpressure on engine would be diffent thus they could use this as a reason for the failure..if its "poppin" in the engine ..could be sticky injector..poor injector timing..or crap fuel..minor blockage in fuel filters/lines..short in electrical harness..rev limiters not set properly..your car should be equiped with detonation program..maybe still running that progarmm and has not reset..these engines live on octane..get the dealership to check..find out who safetied the car(the acual slip)..mechanics signature by law has to be on it..how did it pass with no muffler???Canadian Laws..not sure of yours but keep ALL paperwork and document all conversations with service reps/managers etc..bring back up to meeting..mine i was outnumbered..6 of them and me..
