Little rust spots?

Was cleaning the HHR a few days ago and when I was getting ready to wax the lower portion of the doors I noticed what seems to be little rust spots...but they look like they are coming from the inside out???

Anyone else see this on their car??

Try a clay bar on them. Sounds like chemical spotting from the road or air.

Aren't those flakes referred to as rail dust? They come from the rail cars that transport the HHRs from the factory.

They've been mentioned here before...my HHR has them.

There's a TSB about them.

I had tons of them after this last winter.... mostly on the lift gate and lower side panels... they either come from the road or they could be particules from your own brake dust, I'm not sure. They are not rail dust; I had a few spots of those and got rid of them before the winter.

A clay bar will pull those right off, it's amazing. I've done mine and it's now completely spot free, and the paint is baby skin smooth. You do need to apply a good wax after the clay.

The other day I was looking at my tailgate and disovered two things.

Those little "rust" spots actually appear to be rust, and I've got a bubble under the paint

Hey Goose, I had a similar problem with some rust starting to form on the bottom lip on the inside of my doors. 3 of the 4 passenger doors had this. The body shop cleaned up the area, I assume they sprayed some sort of rust inhibitor and also sealed the seam fully. They sprayed a bit of paint on there and it's been fine ever since. This was almost a year ago. I think I have a thread out there somewhere showing some pictures of the rust I had.

I did notice, the other day, some dark spots on the vertical portion of the sheet metal in my sunroof opening. I haven't yet tried to wipe it down to see if it was dirt or actually some minor rust. I'm hoping for dirt because more rust would be a PITA.
