Loaner/Rental Tax

So my car is in the shop for a warranty repair. They didn't have the part and were going to overnight it so they stuck me in a loaner/rental. They cover the cost of the rental, but I have to pay the tax. Not thrilled, but only $7.50 and the car will "be ready tomorrow", so I say ok........

Well of course the part was ordered to late in the afternoon, so it didn't arrive the next day but arrived on Friday. Not enough time on Friday to finish the job so now it's Monday. Oops, they didn't send all the gaskets and we have to overnight them also.....

So $7.50 is now going to be at least $45. Still not a lot of money I guess, but money I wouldn't be paying if my car didn't break down! And that is still assuming they get my car fixed in the next two days.....

Wow, that's odd.

With the dealership I deal with, they cover all the costs of the loaner/rental, except for gasoline.

I thought it was odd too. Under warranty would pay for everything you would think. Didn't know if it was a dealership thing, or a Texas thing, or some other kinda wierd law...... I will definitely be asking them to waive it now that it has gone much longer than they originally stated and it's because of their own screw ups.

I've had 2 3-day rentals from warranty work so far and the dealer paid 100% each time. Never mentioned anything about taxes.

The only "fee" that was not covered by the dealer is for the extra insurance, which I did not get.

The only time I've had to pay taxes on a covered repair was when GM goodwilled a repair out of warranty on a previous vehicle.

Since my parts are still not here, I decided to talk with the head of the service department today. I told him how I did not see why I should be paying tax on my rental, when it is a warranty repair and it is their fault that my car isn't repaired yet. He told me that this tax is a hotel/stadium tax voted on by voters and GM will not pay that tax. "GM does not build stadiums" was his exact quote. I told him that it wasn't my problem, I didn't think I should be responsible for GM's parts issues. He stated that he would have to submit for the tax reimbursment and could not make that decision on his own. It will be interesting to see the response......

On a related quick search, GM may not build stadiums but they like having their name on them....... General Motors Stadium/Convention
Center in Vancouver BC. Or how about the 5 year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, helping give Texas Stadium a facelift including 65,000 GM cushioned seat covers.

Guess I'll have to ask the service manager to look into that for me too.....
