Question Low fuel warning

I purchased my HHR about 6 weeks ago and have had to refuel a few times. The first couple of times I did not hear or see a warning. The next time I let it run down until the needle was on the red mark ( kinda scary). Finally there was a warning. I went about 10 miles after that. When I filled up I put in 15.5 gallons of gas. The next time I let it run down pretty low again. When I filled up that time I put in over 16 gallons. It seems to me that the warning should be a little sooner. I try to keep an eye on it and I know that I have to refuel every 10 days or so (45 miles per day round trip to work). Anyone else have this issue, or do I need to have mine looked at?

I would have it looked at. I personally never let it go to the warning stage, so I have no idea, but you can get someone to alter it so it will warn you earlier if you really want it to.

Mine gave a low fuel message at a little less than 1/8th of a tank. Under capacities, the manual states the tank size @ 16.2 Gallons. However there is nothing specific stated in the manual as to when it's supposed give a message. I wouldn't drop by the dealer specifically for this problem....but maybe bring up the subject, the next time you take it in for service.

I once got a warning bell signal, and I`ve seen on the display (low fuel).
For the audible I believe the radio/cd has to be on...Could be wrong .
If you`re low, the dic will say so if you go to fuel through the steering wheel buttons...

I know if I have the display set on fuel range it indicates low fuel at about 40 miles. But I don't usually have it set there. I guess the best thing to do is get gas when I have a 1/4 tank left, then I don't have to worry about it.

Thanks for all the quick replies.

I try to stay at a reasonable level, because the price in the inner-city is so high, I go out of state to get the best price. Sometimes I wait just a bit too long.
PS. Out of state is only 5mi.. Makes you wonder what the price of gas is based on..
PS2. Do you have a 2007 (Beaux66) ? I see you don`t have many posts...

The two states probably have different gas taxes.

I was in Chicago a few weeks ago and noticed that the downtown price was $2.85 and just a few blocks out you could pay as low as $2.14.

Not to steal a thread or anything, but wasn`t the price of gas supposed to be based on the price of a barrel of oil? Should be the same in same local.
