Thank you don I read that post as well. I am baffled as well with the results of the compression test and the leak down test. So I'm going to have to wait for the weather to clear up some and I'm going to check the timing one more time. I just dont understand how I'm having these issues. From the start when I first had problems I had 140 psi of compression in 3 out of 4 cylinders. Pulled the head off and had a burnt exhaust valve on #2 cylinder. Purchased a remanufactured head. Installed it 3 different times to find out that it had the wrong intake cam. Installed the right cam and now have my current problem. Good compression on 2 cylinders and not so good on the other two. With no apparent signs of any issues with those two cylinders. Especially when one of the cylinders had great compression before I tore it down.. so something somewhere is a miss with this head or I'm just missing something entirely. I did a timing chain a year ago for routine maintenance and didnt have a single problem. So I dont know what is going on. If it's me or the parts or if it is a combination of the two.. if anyone has and idea or anything it would be greatly appreciated.

I read back thru your posts. You stated earlier that the cylinder head company thought the cams were wrong and were sending replacements. Now your last post says you only replaced one cam ?
Was the other cam correct and didn't need the replacement ? Just to be sure I would have installed both the replacements since they were a set.
I hope it's not more of a wrong cam issue again.

Did you use new head bolts(or studs)?

Leaking into crankcase can only be rings/pistons/cylinder walls. Or the head-to-block mating surface.

I can only wonder if you somehow got the wrong head gasket, or maybe a 2.2 head that isn't compatible with your 2.4 block? Just thinking out loud.

You said you had already installed these bolts once?

They only sent me the intake cam. And as far as I can tell and according to the gm dealership here in town the exhaust came for the 2.4 vvt and 2.4 without vvt are the same cam the intake cam is different. I have put new head bolts and cam actuator bolts on everytime I have put this back together. And I'm pretty confident that the head gasket is the correct one. Each one has had LE5 naked on it and according to gm. That is the engine I have. Vin numbered confirmed. So I'm not sure what is going on. I went to school for automatics. I have an associate degree on the subject. And I understand that there are only a hand full of things that could be causing this issue. But when visually the pistons are in good shape and the cylinder walls look good. And three cylinders had compression now only 2 have good compression and 1 has poor compression and the one that had the burnt valve now has poor compression. I'm thinking suck rings I sprayed a lot cof parts and carb cleaner in them cylinders. Especially 2 and 3 where I have the poor compression. So I poured oil into both of them 3 days ago but haven't been able to do anything to my car because of one my job and two the weather. I'm going to go out there here soon and crank it over and get excess oil out of the cylinders and do another compression test.

Yes, this is very puzzling.

Another member left chemical cleaner in his crankcase too long, had to replace all the seals, basically tear the whole engine apart. Better change the oil soon.

I have already changed the oil. Think I'm just going to pull the head off and replace the rings as well and rod bearings

Are you sure the mating surface of that "remanufactured" head is flat?

I find it fishy that bad compression switched cylinders... I wouldn't be blaming rings, necessarily.

"according to the gm dealership here in town the exhaust came for the 2.4 vvt and 2.4 without vvt are the same cam" - not true - all the 2.4s came with VVT (or did you mean the 2.2 without VVT, and the 2.4 VVT exhaust cams, are the same?).

I think somewhere in this stack of posts we went through that. Maybe it was the other thread

Update.

Ok so to re cap I had a burnt exhaust valve on number 2 cylinder. So I purchased a remanufactured head which came with the wrong intake cam. Received different cam and installed it. Had 145 psi of compression in number 1 and 4 cylinders 80 in number 2 and 3.. did a leak down test and the air was escaping to the crank case. So tore down engine for the third time. I lightly honed the cylinders till the lip at the top was gone. And I checked the in side bore of each cylinder and they were all with in spec. Installed new rings and rod bearings. Put engine back together. Went to start the car it cranked over gave me a little rumble like it wanted to start and now all it dose I crank over. I have fule I'm going to test for spark and compression here in a little bit. I'm just baffled about all the issues I'm having with this car. It has 140000 miles on a 2.4l 2006.
