Is the Tech II scanner a dealer only item or do better shops have them?

2006 relay orientation

I swapped some of the relays with others of the same type, then I noticed that they seem to be in with some facing one direction and others 180 degrees out. Now I'm freaked out because this will cause the relay not to work.
Does anybody have information on relay installation or a picture of their 2006 Fuse/relay box for reference?

Tim

Don't need a TechII. The chip in the key is matched to the chip in the COLUMN, not the cylinder. You need to do the juggling act to match your old key to the new column or use the key & cylinder that came with the new column and have 2 sets of keys (one for the doors one for the ign).

There is no diagram on the inside of the box cover or in your Owner Manual? Usually relays can only go in one way (idiot proof, haha).

There is a diagram that shows location, but the single pole (4 pin relays can go in 2 different directions.

For kicks I had the lo-beams on and pulled the lo-beam relay, lights went out. I rotated the relay 180 degrees and put it back in and the lights came back on. I think they are idiot proof.

Well, I plugged the EPS system in and viola. So the EPS is coded to the computer and if it's wrong no go!

So, can the EPS controller from an 03 Saturn Ion be flashed to work with my 06 HHR?

If I buy a new one for the correct year and model no# will the car run and maybe just need calibration???

I put a complete EPS system out of an 03 Saturn Ion. Mechanically it's identical, but once plugged in it locked up the security system. Out the old one back and the car starts and all is Well, jus no power steering still!

Check your PM.

Oh, and multiple posting won't do much good.

Thank you sir, didn't mean to multiple posts. Two separate problems turned out to be the same so I didn't want to leave information out. I can delete the security and relay posts. It's really just an EPS problem

Not changing the column just the EPS unit which is the motor and controller plus gear box. It attaches to the steering wheel column and the u-joint that goes thru the firewall and to the rack&pinion.

The unit in the picture, not a good pic, but you know what it is...it's the gearbox, the motor, the black control box. It has a shaft that goes into the steering wheel assembly (column on top and on the bottom the output is short and goes in to the U-joint on the upper intermediate shaft which goes through the rubber boot and the fire wall.
