My ambient temp is reading 150 degrees!!

That would be my first option but I would wait another day or two. The temperature setup on these cars is terrible. I have a 95 Blazer that the ambient temperature works flawlessly. The HHR setup can lag from several minutes to days. When I take mine out of the garage on a below zero day, it will read 45 degrees for the 11 mile trip to work at speeds up to 55 mph. On a hot day I've had it hold the highest temperature it experienced on the following morning.

My Corvette did that once. I replaced the sensor, it didn't fix it. I found the connector on the fire wall had a bad contact. It got so bad with that plug I had to take it off and clean every contact on it, cover it with dielectric grease and then put it back together. That fixed all the little problems I was having. It's an 86, the first year GM put an outside temp sensor on their cars.
I was living just south of Atlanta at the time. The car had not left Georgia much at all at that time. It was about 10 years old too when it started having corrosion problems in the wiring harness.
