Do they still use gaskets? I thought they were using that stuff that looks like caulk nowadays.

In some instances.

Look real well at picture 2, post 1 of "It's raining transmission fluid....". You probably will notice the black "neoprene" gasket. Also, as some have mentioned....the "gasket" is probably reuseable when removing the valve cover.

That's not an HHR 2.2. The designation is wrong (HHR's engine designation is L850. L61 is a Spring Hill engine). I wouldn't doubt, however, that the two would probably use the same water neck.

The GM Canada HHR site lists the available engines as L61 (2.2) and LE5 (2.4)

So does the GM Powertrain site:

Thumbs up Back from the dealer today

I picked the HHR up after work today. They showed me the part, but said it has to go to GM. I didn't get a photo, but its the part in the schematic I posted. It was leaking where one of the metal tubes that a 1 inch (?) diameter coolant line connects to, leaking at the base of this tube where it was mated to the forged aluminum body of the housing.

Heard a gurgeling percolating sound in the passenger side of dash right after starting it up at the dealer to go home, most likely the heater core. Probably some air in the system from the re-fill they would have had to do. Hasn't done it again so must have burped itself out.

Here he is hanging out with his roommate tonight:

I knew that piece was a leak waiting to happen.
So is that the same part for both motors, do you know, or were you just happy to get out of the dealer?
