Need Help Sunroof Doesn't Close Right
Hello everyone. I am desperately needing help here. We bought this 06 hhr about 4 years ago and it never did have the wind deflector. It was never really an issue but about a year ago it stopped closing properly. Now its almost impossible to wash the car without it going everywhere.
Anyone have an idea what could cause this or how to fix it?
Thank you to anyone able to help.
In the video below I am trying to demonstrate what its doing. It opens and closes but it seems like whenever it is in the closed position it travels to far or something because it props the back up to high and causes the gap. If I push down on the glass I can tell that it still wont close tight because the weather strip doesn't seal.
My thought is that it has something to do with the motor or the electronics controlling it need to be reset but this is just my opinion.
Again, I appreciate all thoughts.

You need to go to your local pick a part and find a HHR with a sunroof and get the wind deflector, with it missing the sunroof won't close properly
I understand that GM has the part for about $100.00 to $175.00

I was thinking about that but it didn't explain why it operated perfectly without it for so many years? I have not been able to inspect one with the wind deflector installed so I cant compare or visually see how it operates.
I do know that the wind deflector is on a spring and am wondering if that pushes up against the front of the glass causing it to stay in place? But, again doesn't really explain why it worked for so long without it.

Ours is not to reason why, just see what the issue is and advise how to fix it!
Seriously though, I can see in your video the front drops down and the rear tips up just a smidge when you close it. The wind deflector takes up the space under the glass panel to stop that travel

I do not agree with the windscreen removal interfering with proper closing of the sun roof. I had mine removed for about 3 months before I did the windscreen repair. It never interfered with the sunroof closing TIGHTLY or PROPERLY. But maybe mine was a fluke.

Never buy a vehicle with a hole in the roof! Wasn't there a problem with the tracks that the sunroof rides in? I'd clean all of the surfaces and seal it shut with some butyl windshield adhesive then remove the fuse for it.
