New HHR Owner- I have a few ?'s!!

Hi Everyone- I'm buying a used 06 LT this week. I've been driving it for a few days and a i have a few questions. I'm waiting for a new owners manual to come in the mail, but i can't wait for it to get a few anwsers.

#1- There is a small white light that appears to be coming from the antenna hook up. Is this normal, or is something missing??

#2- Are all blinkers always so noisy????

#3- How do i get the lift gate to open?? So far the only way i can get it to work is by having the car turned on?? Is this normal??

#4-The stereo shows that it has XM radio capability. What do i need to do to activate it?? The dealer was no help when i called on this. I already have an XM account.

#5- Is the HHR capable of having a trailer hitch installed to add a bike rack?

#6- Any good ideas on graphics for the Majestic Amethyst Metalic??? I can't afford to do alot, but i attend alot of "Cruise Nites" and i want my baby to stand out a bit!!

I know these are probably reduntant questions and i should wait for the owners manual to get here, but i'm toooooo excited!!!

Thanks in advance!!!!!!

That's the new "Handy Dandy Map Light", notice how it shines on the window controls....

Not really...the blinkers are actually going through the radio. I don't mind them so much, but my friend thinks I'm bonkers.

Umm...haven't heard of this one, so I'll let someone else answer.

If you hit the band button does it go to XM? If so, then you'll just need to go to channel 1 and get the Radio ID, then call XM and have them activate that radio on your account (Either as an addition or replacing your current)
If the Band doesn't switch to XM, you're best bet is to talk to your local radio dealer and have them see what XM Module they can attach to the radio to get ya hooked up.

#5- Is the HHR capable of having a trailer hitch installed to add a bike rack?
Yes, you can get a towing pakage installed, and the Bike Rack is a good use for it. We have someone here that uses the trailer hitch to fly a flag and it looks really neat.

For Amythyst, I would do Ghosts or skeletons...the Amethyst to me always seems to scream GRAVEYARD in my ears...but see #2

Thank you for contacting the Reduntant Department of Redundancy.

And WELCOME!!!

I know you'll LOVE Your HHR!!!

Oh snap...

BTW...you can get a PDF Copy of the owners manual online at https://www.mygmlink.com/main/US/en/gm/home?cmp=gmcomhp

Something to pass the time while the paper one shows up...

Looks like jayras answered all but one question which would be #3 and I have my own opinion on #6.

No...the car does not have to be on in order to open the rear lift gate. You can hit the door open button on your key fob several times and you can then open it...or you can open one of the front doors and hit the door unlock button on the door and it will open as well.

#6 - Graphics on Amethyst...if you want something subtle and inexpensive, you might go with some pinstripe tape until you decide what you really want to do. Best thing to do would be to visit a paint supply store that sells it in bulk...look at their color charts and decide what you think would look best. Guy who did mine took me there and they let him take a few rolls out and actually put a couple samples on the car until I found what I wanted. Thinking a pearl color or chrome would look nice on the purple...or maybe even a nice lilac metallic if it is available.

If you have more questions on the trailer hitch...member Gambler is the one who has the flagpole hitch on his car that jayras mentioned.

to chevyhhr.net. We look forward to seeing you around the boards and answering any other questions you might have.

First welcome and congrads on the HHR, and your choice of color
I also have the same color, and around here mine stand out with just the color. I have not yet, but soon will just add a pinstip on the car.

The touchpad under the rear bowtie works without the car running, at least it does on mine.

Cool

Welcome! I have Amethyst also. I'm part color blind and actually thought I had purchased Charcoal Gray! Oh, well.

The turn signals are Retro as the 49 Suburbans were loud also or so I'm told.
I never leave my signal on accidently any more, neither will you.

Here's my ride with Ghost Flames.

Inside dash

Hitch

I also had the gray stipes on the inside of the doors painted to match.

Fisrt off: to the board!

Here's how the HHR's door locks work:

1) When car is locked, hitting the "unlock" button no the keyfob only unlocks the driver's door. This is a safety feature to prevent someone from entering through another door in a "panic" situation. All other doors - and the rear hatch, remain locked.

2) Hitting the "unlock" button a second time unlocks the remaining doors and the rear hatch, allowing you access to the cargo area.

Hope it helps!

I"ve tried hitting the door un-lock button 3 or 4 times and it doesn't work. Is there something wrong with my car???? Thanks for all your help!!!

I've noticed on my HHR that the hatch release is really sensitive. I've touched it to open the rear hatch, only to have the mechanism close back up.
