New key fob!
#11
Usually what goes wrong on the fob is the keypad and maybe a solder joint on the battery holder. I bought two cases with batteries for my 2006 for $6.95 from Remotez4less on E-bay and fixed both of my remotes. That's less than two batteries cost locally. I also bought a pair for my truck There are many cases available in various colors too. I noticed that my local Ace hardware sells the cases too for around $10 each.
If you need the complete transmitter, they also have them or a locksmith should have them. I bought a Blazer that was equipped with keyless entry but no remote came with it. I bought one from the local locksmith for $30 and they programmed it.

If the OP was having a problem this would be good info, but he is posting a new solution he found to his problem. He is offering info, not asking for it.
There are hundreds of posts offering the "old" solutions, this is a new product/solution.
I for one, had a remote just completely fail. No fix worked it just needed replacing. Solder, keypad, case, battery. They sometimes give up the ghost.

There are a lot fewer using the site these days but people still do find it or look for information. Many won't ask questions because those that do are often rudely told to use the search function. When they do use the search function and bring up an old thread they are criticized for that.
This site has a lot of good information but those new to the site might not be able to find it so I put information on the most recent thread on a topic.

YES there is something new about this particular after-market remote.
It comes with a "black box" for programming the car.
You can get it at any store that sells Dorman parts, which is everywhere (under one brand or another).
In other words, NO need to pay additional for programming. It is widely available at a good price.
Or, you can get one for $15 on Ebay and pay $75 for programming it.
Maybe go back and read the OP.

This is really good to know. I have had to repair mine several times now and it gets annoying. As a matter of fact the one on my spare needs to be repaired right now.
I may just replace it instead of re-soldering the board on it again. $45 is a lot better than the $98 the dealership wanted.

I bought one (for $60) from o'Reilly. Comes with programmer. Has anyone confirmed that programming a differently obtained Fob with the programmer functions correctly. I can't think why it wouldn't work - after all the programmer must look like an original programmer to the car's ODBCII port - and the fob must look like an original fob to the car's RF circuitry?

My 2008 HHR does not have remote start and the key fob is dead. The one the local Auto Zone sells has the 4th button for remote start. All I need it to do is to lock & unlock the doors. Will the one with the 4th button work to just lock & unlock the doors? I need to try & get something as soon as possible. The keyed door lock jams on me when I use the key from time to time. Which is a problem for another day...

Don't give up on your existing key fob without pulling it to pieces and cleaning every contact. And check the battery. I resurrected quite a few that way - even cannibalizing parts from a old TV remote on more than one occasion.

I agree most key fobs can be repaired. In most cases the battery clip needs to be resoldered and or the key pad (rubber part) needs replaced. They are about 5 to 10 bucks on ebay. Then no programing is required.

It should work. Check in your glove box label for the code "AP3", if it's there you do have RS.
