So i go out to my car about 25 min ago to go to the store, I havent drove all day so first thing i notice is my gas guage is reading that I have a half of a tank when i just filled up 2 days ago it was jus below full when i last drove. so I stop at the gas station and top it off just to make sure of no leaks and it only lets me put 6 bucks in, I turn the car off and the needle goes back up to full. Second under hard braking my passenger rear tire is locking up like the drums need adjusted . Any suggestions or solutions before i take it to the dealer?

 

Gas guage.......no idea. I would hope that the rear drums adjust themselves. You can take it to a empty parking lot and back up for ten to fifteen feet and hit the brakes. This should adjust them too. Is it possible that there was some moisture that got it the brakes and rusted slightly to let them lock up? Had that problem with a old Beretta I had.

 

yea i already tried backing up didnt do anything, yea my 89 camaro had that problem with moisture but it went away after driving, this isnt going away at all.

Just an idea from a warm climate resident, but could the cold weather be a factor to your problems? I'd give it a good drive and let things warm up and thaw out before heading to the dealer.

 

I was told by a repairman that you should always set the emergency brake, even on an automatic transmission, because it re-adjusts the rear brakes. He said they used to re-adjust when you went in reverse but that system was changed several years ago.

Can any mechanics on here confirm or deny that? I've been following that rule and have had very few problems with my rear brakes.

 

Are you parked on an incline ? The gas guage is very sensitive to that. Mine sometimes reads 1/4 tank below its actual level when it's tilted to the driver side. It corrects itself after a few minutes of driving around. I don't think that can be fixed.

Brakes, I don't know. There might be some rust in there, it may be the cold, or they may need some adjusting. I'd wait for a warm day, and drive around quite a bit with mild brake applications to eliminate the rust & cold options.

You said "hard braking" - how hard? I can lock my wheels too if I try hard enough. My brake always feel more "grabby" when they are cold or if the car has been sitting for a couple of days.

Several times, when I start up, my gas guage doesn't read right. It only does it the first start. If I shut it down and restart, the guage goes up to where it 'should' be.

 

Park brake does not self adjust and it can not be adjusted by backing up. A fuel gage reading incorrectly will most likely need a fuel level sensor on the fuel sending unit assembly, inside of the gas tank. It is always possible that it is a gage in the instrument cluster too. Dealers have a tester that will perform a gage sweep to determine if it is the level sensor or the cluster gage. This is an expensive repair so get it done before the warranty runs out. Both items, park brake and fuel gage being inaccurate will be covered by the 36/36 warranty.

 

Thanks for the replies guys!! No i do not park on a incline at all. When i say hard braking i dont mean locking the front up jus coming to a quick hard stop and it locks up. I have scheaduled a appointment tomorrow with the dealer, i also have few other things that need fixed.
