Newb help with Remote Start

Just picked up a 2009 HHR LT. Very nice car.

Has remote start key fob.

The question is.....does it have remote start installed in the vehicle. It has the 4 button remote for Lock, Unlock, Panic and remote start. Mine will not start. Was this something that gets put on the remotes and must have the remote start system installed? How can I tell if I have the remote start? Tried all of the tricks in the book (owners manual). Anybody out there able to help???

Thanks,

Chuck

if it has the option on the car here is how to tell
stand next to it and push the lock button on your remote
right after push & HOLD down the remote start button till it starts

if it does not start then it does not have it!

My $.02!

Welcome to the site.

To have remote start, look in the glovebox for the sticker with the RPO codes. AP3 code is the option code # for the remote entry, start. If you have this code you've got the remote start feature.
If it's a formal rental car, it probably won't have it. Most of the rentals were ordered with this feature deleted.
If it's a stick shift, it won't have it.

There are literally hundreds of posts about this subject on this site. You can do a SEARCH here and read some other threads on this if you like.

And go through the DIC option, make sure it's there and turned on. If so, then proceed to reading the directions printed on the back of the fob. If still no RS, then check your brake lights and CEL status.

The other way to figure out if you got it is to look at your hood latch, if there is a wiring harness going to it, you got it.

Yes you have to lock the doors and immediately pust the start button.

You have to press the LOCK button even if the car is already locked.

I've owned probably 25 cars and I never have seen a Owner's Manuel like the one I have that came with my 2006. Notice the pages devoted to safety issues before you even get to how many quarts of oil it takes. Thank Nader for this?

This thread is about remote start, not the owners manual.
