The lights both go off when pushing the lever forward to bright. When pulled forward as if you are flashing someone, both lights work. I checked the fuses, and relays, all are good. I disconnected the battery to reset the computer, same problem. I then bought a used swithch assembly from a u-pull it yard. Same problem, no brights. Any other suggestions This is on a 2010 HHR

 

Check both bulbs it’s not unheard of they burn out, now are you saying the brights work when you pull the lever, cause the low beams and the hi beams light up when you pull the lever to flash to pass.

 

I guess I should have stated that the first thing I did was replace the bulbs. Same problem. Yes, when I pull the lever toward me, the bright and dim filaments light, which tell me the bulbs are good.

 

Relay #72 underhood fuse block

 

My original post stated I checked all fuses and relays, including #72

 

Check the ground wire on the drivers side inner fenderwell, to the left of the fuse box (left from the driver's seat, or to the right with your head in the engine bay)... It's a smallish black wire.

I had a similar situation when a rodent chewed that wire completely off.

 

Does your car have fog lights? If so; after-market or factory?

Flash to pass is on a separate circuit; the low beam component is direct to the relay, the high beam component goes through the BCM. So, are you positive that the high beams do work on FTP? If not it has to be a wire between the BCM and the relay #72. Or a wire between the switch and the BCM.

The headlights have separate grounds, and each serves both hi and lo.

Each head light has separate fuses for hi and lo.

High beams are supposed to be disabled when fog light are on.

Thanks for the tips. The ground wire seems corroded, so I will clean that tonight. The car has factory fog lights which we seldom use. When they are off, we got no brights when the switch is turned on. When on, everything is dark as well.when the brights turned on. The brights do work when the FTP is activated, which made me assume the filaments are good

 

Maybe you could look at this wiring diagram. I don't see anyway that what you describe could happen.

Pull the DRL fuse and see what happens.
