No Bright Headlights
#11
My mechanic printed off that schematic this morning. He thought maybe the tan/white wire from the BCM is bad. I have not have time to find the BCM yet, but have trouble believing one wire in a bundle went bad. IExcuse my ignorance, but which fuse is the DRL fuse. I tend to agree, that something like this should not happen, but I have a hundred dollar bill to the person that comes over, pushes the lever forward on the multi function light switch and tells me "see, there is nothing wrong with your lights"

What I am thinking is that you have NO headlights, Maybe the switch is "off", so you are driving around with DRL only. That would point towards the light sensor.
I it was a problem with the tan/wht wire you would never have hi beams.
DRL fuse is #31 under hood (on the first diagram).
When the lo beams are on are the tail lights?

Update on this problem. The switch was on AUTO, that's how it always is, don't know if it has ever been moved from that position. I noticed yesterday, the driver side dim was burned out again, so today I bought new headlights again. Before I started, I tried the FTP, and both worked fine, tried the brights, nothing. Pulled both fuses (63, 67), and the relay (72) FTP still worked, which surprised me. Pulled relay 71, low beams went out, swapped 71 and 72, and had low beams again. Fuses and relays are all good. Then I replaced the driver headlight. Low beams both worked, FTP both worked, no high beams. I was back to where I was after replacing both bulbs awhile ago. I then disconnected the negative terminal at the battery for a few minutes. After reconnecting, my driver side high beam worked, and only the driver high on FTP. WTF? Replaced passenger side lamp, and now everything works. Problem solved.
The only thing I did different this time around, was I disconnected the power at the battery, last time I disconnected at the underhood fuse panel. It must have been a clitch in the body computer, which needs the power cut at the battery, not the fuse panel.

Sounds like the BCM thinks you have fog lights turned on. It is not legal to use high beams and fogs at the same time.
The BCM controls the lights. Except FTP.
You said you saw the wiring diagram.
How did you disconnect the negative at the underhood fuse box. If you mean the large red connection the same danger plus a few exists as disconnecting at the battery.

The BCM may have thought the fog lights were on, but they weren't. When I was trouble hooting the problem, I turned them on, and tried the brights, fogs went off, so did the brights. My first plan to reset the BCM was to disconnect the power. I disconnected the red wire to the underhood fuse panel. Maybe that doesn't reset the BCM, I don't know. This time I disconnected the negative at the battery. That solved the problem. Don't ask me how, but it did. With my 07 HHR, I used to have a problem with the door locks not engaging when shifted into gear. When ever that happened, the cruise control would also not work. To solve that problem, I disconnected the negative at the battery. That hasn't happened now for about 3 years.

If you want to reset only the BCM you can pull the maxi-fuse near the battery.
That reboots the computer, just like the computer at work when it starts being flaky.
If you study the wiring diagrams they explain the behavior you describe in post #14.
